01

Say what you need

A specialty, a complaint, or the spot that hurts.

In detail

Say what you need

  • Write it the way you would say it: “skin” finds Dermatology and Skin check.
  • Some specialties sit in several areas: Allergology, for example, under “Skin”, “Ears, nose and throat” and “Lungs and breathing”.
  • Searching needs no account.

02

See open times

The times that practices release themselves. Anything booked through Calenu disappears at once.

In detail

See open times

  • Some times a practice releases only for new or only for existing patients.
  • Each time says whether you are booked at once or send a request.
  • 84 percent of those who book online, or could imagine doing so, name not being tied to phone hours as an advantage (Bitkom Research, 2025).

03

The practice, before you book

Its next times, how it confirms and, if the practice states it, what canceling costs.

In detail

The practice, before you book

  • Under “Confirmation” the page says whether the practice confirms at once or answers each request itself.
  • Under “Written by the practice” the practice tells you about itself.
  • The languages spoken at the practice are listed under its name.

04

Pick a time

Enter your details once, then never again.

In detail

Pick a time

  • “Suggestions” lists the next open times. “Calendar” lets you pick a day.
  • For a request, the app says “Waiting for the practice” until the practice confirms.
  • If you like, the confirmation also comes by email to your account’s address, with a file for your calendar.
  • Reminders come only if you allow them.

05

Done

The appointment is in the app, with directions to the practice, your calendar and what to bring.

In detail

Done

  • “Running late” tells the practice, with no phone call. You see when the front desk has read it.
  • “Directions” gives your maps app only the practice’s address.

The film

A morning with Murat and Emir.

A nearly forgotten check-up. A father, a son and an appointment without a phone call.

Under a minute. Everyone in it is made up.

The story

Outside the pediatric practice, Murat remembers that Emir is due for his check-up. He requests a time in Calenu, the practice says yes, and the next morning it is Emir’s turn.

A still from the film: Murat bends down to Emir and they high-five.

The app

How to be seen sooner.

Five things you would otherwise call about.

Someone cancels.
Calenu tells you.

You keep your appointment six weeks out. Calenu watches the practice and lets you know as soon as something earlier opens up.

Calenunow

An earlier appointment opened up. Tomorrow at 09:40. Tap to see where.

In detail

Someone cancels. Calenu tells you.

  • One tap on “Tell me if an earlier slot opens” is all it takes.
  • Your old appointment stays until the new one is confirmed.
  • The five who have waited longest hear first, everyone else two minutes later. If the time starts in less than two hours, everyone hears at once. Plus changes nothing about that.

Sorted by time

The soonest appointment is at the top. You can also sort by distance.

In detail

Sorted by time

  • Each row shows the time and, where known, how far away the practice is.

and are marked

At all the others, your health insurer pays as usual for what it covers.

In detail

Private-only practices and self-pay services

  • The mark is on the time itself, before you tap.
  • If you have statutory insurance, Calenu offers you only times that are open to you.
  • Before you book, the app says who pays, such as “Privatpraxis, you get an invoice” or “You pay for this one yourself”.

Calu, when you are not sure

Which specialty, which documents, who pays. No diagnosis.

In detail

Calu, when you are not sure

  • Calu shows you which specialty fits, what to bring and who pays.
  • We never save what you write to Calu.
  • Certain words bring up an emergency card with 112 and 116117. In the blind test it appeared for 79 of 150 emergency sentences (Calu’s rules).

Cancel without calling

Two taps and done. The time is free again at once for others.

In detail

Cancel without calling

  • Anyone waiting for an earlier appointment at that practice hears about the freed time.
  • In a 2023 survey by the KBV, the national association of statutory health insurance physicians, 70 percent of the practices asked had problems with appointments missed without notice (zm, 2023).

Figures

The appointments are there.

And still many people wait for weeks. Four figures from Germany, each with a source.

1.4 million

appointments nobody asked for at the in 2025

Practices had reported them there. The figure does not say whether they were given out some other way.

    Questions

    Before you ask.

Everything about data protection is in the privacy policy.

    Are the times really open?
Yes. Calenu shows only times the practice released itself. When someone books through Calenu, the time disappears at once. Some times the practice confirms as it releases them; others it confirms one by one. Until then it is a request, and the app says so. Once the practice has confirmed, the app shows when.
What happens to my health data?
A booked appointment reveals what it is about. That makes it health data. It goes to the practice you book with and is stored in Germany. Notifications on your iPhone come through Apple, with as little content as you allow. The details are in the privacy policy.
    Do I need an account?
Not to search. To book in the app, you sign in once, with Apple or with your email. The practice gets your name, date of birth, insurance, whether you have been there before, a way to reach you about a cancellation and, if you give it, your reason in one word.
    Does canceling cost anything?
Not at Calenu. Some practices charge a fee for cancellations at very short notice. That is up to the practice; if it has entered its rule and deadline in Calenu, they are on the appointment before you book. If it has not, please ask the practice.
    Does Calu replace medical advice?
No. Calu shows you which specialty fits, what to bring and who pays. Calu makes no diagnosis and does not judge urgency. The rules Calu follows, and which words show which emergency card, are in Calu’s rules.

    You can count on it

    Three promises.

For every appointment, at every practice.

    Made for appointments

Calenu shows you open appointments. Your doctor tells you what you have and what to do.

    In detail

    Made for appointments

    • Calu helps with four questions: which specialty fits, whether you need a referral, who pays and what to bring.
    • The intended purpose in the legal notice says what Calenu is.
    Time sets the order

The next open time sets each practice’s place in the list, the same for all.

    In detail

    Time sets the order

    • “Verified” names what Calenu checked and on which day, such as the license to practice.
    • If practices pay one day, each pays the same flat fee. Its place in the list stays its next open time.
    Your appointment, your practice

What you book goes to the practice you choose.

    In detail

    Your appointment, your practice

    • A practice gets what the appointment needs. What you booked at other practices stays between you and them.
    • You delete your account yourself, in the profile with “Delete account”. The rest is in the privacy policy.
